Join us on a Pilgrimage to Baraga Country, Sault Ste. Marie
with Fr. James Conlon, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Ann Arbor.
Tuesday, October 9
our bus departs from the front of St. Francis Church. We will arrive back home on Wednesday, October 10 by 11:30 p.m.
Venerable Frederic Baraga, Michigan's snowshoe priest, ministered to the European immigrants and the native peoples in the mid-1800s. Bishop Baraga spoke eight different languages and founded several missions in the UP, often traveling for hours by snowshoe. Declared venerable in 2012, Bishop Baraga played an important role in sharing the love of God in the Catholic faith by his teachings and works, establishing missions, schools,and literary efforts to preserve the Ojibwe native language, and by advocating for both the immigrant and native peoples.

Tuesday, October 9 at 6:50 a.m.
We depart from the front of the Church at St. Francis.
11 a.m. Mass & Lunch and self-guided Tour at Indian River, Cross in the Woods
2:30 p.m. Visit, tour, and walk (weather permitting) with the Army Corps of Engineers on the Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie.
5 p.m. Dinner and Lodging in Sault Ste. Marie.
Wednesday, October 10
9 a.m. Mass and Tour of St. Mary's Proto-Cathedral, former cathedral of Bishop Baraga (and see the snowshoes of this holy bishop)
11 a.m. Lunch
12:30 p.m. Ferry to Sugar Island
Explore an early Baraga mission on Sugar Island located in St. Mary's River between the United States and the Canadian province of Ontario.
4 p.m. Ferry back to Main Land and depart for St. Francis.
7 p.m. Dinner
11:30 p.m. Arrive back at St. Francis Church.
The spiritual experiences of Mass, worship, and prayer, combined with the glory of God's nature in the fall season, promise to deepen our love and commitment for our Lord.
Our price: $295/person (double room occupancy) or $540/couple. The price includes transportation by coach, two lunches, breakfast, two dinners and all tour fees.
